Tesla's Cybercab Is Going on Sale. Can It Survive Tirana Traffic?
I have a very serious question. What happens the day Tesla's driverless cars arrive in Albania?
Because Tesla just said it wants to get the Cybercab to its first customers by the end of this year!
For those who don't know it, the Cybercab is a two-seat electric car that drives itself completely. No steering wheel, no pedals.
So you couldn't drive it even if you wanted to.
Tesla already runs a taxi service with these cars in Austin, Texas, and plans to sell them to other companies too, even though US authorities are investigating whether they meet safety standards.
But I'm curious about something else. How will this car handle Tirana?
Because the AI may have been trained on millions of kilometers of road, but I'm not sure it's ready for an Albanian who overtakes from the right, phone in hand, with no indicator.
In America, the car recognizes traffic lights, pedestrians and road signs.
In Albania, it also needs to read body language. Because here, right of way isn't always decided by the signs. Sometimes it's decided by whoever sticks the nose of their car in first.
And parking? If the Cybercab expects to find a legal parking spot in the center of Tirana, the passenger might retire inside the car.
I can't wait to see them.
Because Elon Musk has managed to build a car that doesn't need a driver. Now he just needs to build an AI with the nerves for Tirana traffic!
